Veteran Services Your sponsorship and donation would be applied, without prejudices, to female and male US Armed Forces active, guard, reservists and veterans helping to improve their lives with compassionate healing and therapeutic modalities.  Specifically, your sponsored program provides resiliency and personal healing from lived traumatic experiences through exercise, meditation and positive imagery training.  Tragically, PTSD, depression and increased escapist vices like alcohol and drug abuse have greatly contributed to a 20% increase in suicides within our military during 2020; and, prior years were far too high already.  Through a partnered community relationship, a local, veteran-owned, Japanese Karatedo dojo has experience towards those goals.  There are wonderful benefits these soldiers can extract and internalize through kaizen (“means of continuous, incremental improvements”) and nana korobi ya oki (fall down seven times, get up eight) philosophies.   

Free Programs for Cognitively and/or Physically Challenged Persons Your sponsorship and donation would be applied, without prejudices, to female and male children, teens and young adults with cognitive disabilities such as Autism and Downs Syndrome and any additional physical disabilities offering them Karate training at no cost for instruction.  Too often, this population experiences doors that are closed to them with organized sports activities; we open doors to them.  Additionally, too often parents are burdened with many medical copayment expenses for multiple therapies for these individuals; but those added costs that can limit available funds to engage other programs.  A Positive Life has several area organizations to serve with their hundreds of engaged, special needs children and teens; and, your corporate donation turns this from a dream to a reality! 

Your sponsorship and donation would be applied, without prejudices, to any individual who is victim of domestic abuse cases or wanton (of a cruel or violent action; deliberate and unprovoked) bullying.  Whether the bullying/abuse is physical, verbal, social/peer aggression or cyber in nature, your sponsored program would be used to decrease the hopelessness that leads to thoughts of escaping via suicide. Great strides can be made in many cases to increase self-confidence and self-worth by bonding with others (many feel hopelessly alone…) and learning self-defense and conflict resolution. 

Your sponsorship and donation would be applied, without prejudices, to female and male preteens to help guide them towards positive outlets and thinking while they are at a critical juncture in their lives. Negative stresses such as peer pressure, introduction to drugs/alcohol/smoking/vaping at young ages corrupt youth and start them off on the wrong path in life. These are exponentially higher in families that are single parent households and in those that are economically challenged. Akin to Boys Club or community center outlets, your sponsored program paves the way for at risk youth programs to plant better seeds of success by espousing the negativity of bad vices and decisions and bonding in a positive environment with reenforced, truthful information about personal responsibility and positive outlets dealing with life issues. 

There are a staggering number of individuals fighting a battle against anxiety and depression everyday in our community.  The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns led to dramatic changes in our daily lives.  Interpersonal relations and contact between family members, coworkers and friends was thrust into an unparalleled realm we have never witnessed in modern times.  Overwhelming press coverage, government actions, and  social media chatter collided with conflicting data and this bred more cases of severe anxiety and depression resulting in spiked numbers of suicides.  Those demographic group most negatively affected were our youth.  The  innocence, sense of security, and joy were sucked out of many children as their youth was put on hold and major, joyous events were canceled. 

Your sponsorship and donation would be applied, without prejudices, to female and male senior citizens from the surrounding communities.  Very often, the ‘joys of aging’ from a lifetime of work and living is decreased physical abilities and a varied increased in pain.  Your sponsored program fosters building of core strength for stability, and breathing exercises for relaxation, stress relief and building lung capacity.  Self-defense for the this population is something that must not be overlooked.  As we age, it is vital to keep moving and stay physically active within reasonable measures.  In addition to the physical gains, one can also increase focus and set new goals to work towards.  This segment of our community has not exceeded their expiration date; they have value to share with us all.
